How to choose an Airsoft Gun?

Buying your first airsoft gun is the beginning of a fun and enjoyable hobby. However to new players, airsoft guns all seem very much the same and they end up choosing the cheapest gun which often isn't as high quality as they hoped it would be. I know the first airsoft gun is a hard choice, but here are a few steps that people can take to choose a good Airsoft gun.

1.       Be careful where the Airsoft gun was made.

Chinese government has banned the production and sale of all the airsoft gun products along time ago, and all the Chinese airsoft manufactories are illegal, therefore there are no quality control (QC) checks at all, which means if your lucky you will only have a 50% chance to get a good gun from China, and most of time you might get a lemon that will be broken when it arrives or will fail very soon. Also there is no warranty giving to these So we highly recommend you choose the airsoft gun which is made in Taiwan or Hong Kong or Japan.

2.       Budget

You get what you pay for, but you have to look at the amount of money that you are willing to spend on buying the best airsoft gun for you. If you are loaded with cash and there is no need for you to be worried about money, you can choose the most expensive one available if this is what you want. However, if you are still new to this or have lower budget, you should determine the amount which you can afford to spend on the gun by setting yourself a budget and stick to it.

3.       Determine what you will be doing with the gun. Are you going to be target practice or MilSim or skirmish or family fun or collection?

For target practice: the high FPS gas gun with blow back systems will be always good. Make sure the gun also has the adjustable hop-up because it will increase accuracy as well.

"MilSim", short for Military Simulation, generally combines airsoft play with some military live-action role-playing elements. This type of play may be considered "hard core" by many players because of the above normal involvement required. Several goals or missions may be assigned to each team, along with a basic load-out (i.e., supply) of ammunition, rations, explosives, and radios. For this type of players, more realistic weapons are required, even the capacity of magazine should match with the real one. In this case, some low capacity gas blow back rifles and pistols will be the best choice, because the sound and the blow back action are closer to the real gun, and the capacity of the magazines are also match with the real things.

Skirmish is a term coined to describe most games of airsoft that aren't MilSim. It includes simplified rules, no more than two to three teams, simple objectives, and a general low budget 'warm up' style of play that doesn't include the dynamics of Mil-Sim play. For this type of players, the SEGs (Semi Electric Gun) are going to be your best friends simply because they are able to fire repeatedly without the hassle of having to cock it every time it is fired. Also SEGs are upgradeable, it can be upgrade to certain FPS to comply with club FPS rules. Gas gun could be another good choice, but keep in mind though that if you plan on playing in a very cold area, a gas gun will not work. And gas guns require more maintenance than SEG. The FPS of the gun should be between 300-400FPS with 0.2g BBs. Some clubs have their own FPS rules.

For family fun purpose who just play airsoft with certain friends or family members such as a backyard fun, spring guns will be good choice for you, because the price of the springers are cheap, and the FPS is not very high which means you don’t really need to buy some professional protection gears, but eyes protection goggles are always needed. And spring guns don’t need too much maintenance. The FPS of gun should lower than 300 with 0.2g BBs.

For collection, the reason to collect airsoft gun, because most collectors don’t have C license to collect the real guns or don’t want to spend too much money on guns collecting, so the realistic airsoft gun will be a good choice. If you are going to enter this field, you need do some researches on the real guns first, then to find a closest looking airsoft gun with most of real gun features. The gas blow back guns are always first choice for gun collectors.
